These days surfing, streaming and Netflixing makes staying on the couch much more appealing and much harder to stay committed to your exercise and eating goals. Even fast-food joints now deliver right to your door. Don’t wait any longer! Now is the time to start looking at some different ways to exercise and eat right in 2020.

Remind yourself why you are doing this EVERY day in 2020

In order to be motivated to do anything, you need to know why you are doing it and what positive energy you are going to get from it. Maybe your goal is to flaunt your toned body at the beach in the new year. Do you have a Class Reunion coming up in 2020? That is a great reason to shed some pounds. What about health reasons? If you simply want to feel healthier, doing this for yourself is a no-brainer. It’s important to keep your fitness goals in mind to persevere even during the hardest of times. Get up every day in 2020 repeating a mantra that works for you!

Find the approach that works for you

It can be really difficult to stay motivated if what you are doing is not working. If you aren’t seeing any results your motivation can quickly be lost. You have to ensure the approach you are taking is right for you. Consult with a personal trainer and a nutritionist that will be able to tell you how you could reach your goals in the most efficient manner. What works for you one day may not work for you the next. Be diligent and consistent in finding new ways to keep it new in 2020.

Luckily, there are numerous professionals that can help you on your journey. Do your homework. Do your research. Go through your Instagram, or other social media and find out who is getting REAL results. The best way to find someone to help you is by talking to their followers and clients. In addition to that, you should also consider your preferences in order to create a strategy that will be exactly what you need. For instance, you could work out a plan with a trainer at the local gym or you could have a private trainer come to your home if you would rather avoid the crowds.

When it comes to food, start making your own meals at home for a much healthier approach to fast food. Once you determine which foods you should cut out and which ones you should introduce more of, it’ll be much easier to shed those pounds. If you don’t have time to cook, you can now have weight loss meals delivered right to your doorstep.

Make it a social thing and invite your friends

Some of us really don’t like doing things on our own. Would you be more motivated if you found a friend to make this lifestyle change as well? If you don’t like going to the gym alone, invite them to tag along. Who knows, maybe they will realize that they need this too. For weight loss, you can go biking together or enjoy long hikes. You could work out a schedule together of what and when you could eat together and be each other’s support system. Take turns making meals, how fun would that be!

Come up with a contract to prevent giving up

This might sound silly but drafting a contract could actually help keep you motivated. For example, do it with your friends and family who can keep you in check. The contract should specify how many times a week you will go to the gym or how many healthy meals you must prepare on a weekly basis. Put it on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. Look at it every day. Every time you miss a training session or eat something really unhealthy, you will be held accountable. Consider setting a dollar aside whenever you break the contract. You could then use it for a big reward or donate it to a charity of your choice. If you’re trying to stay in shape with a friend, the money can go to the “winner”.

Keeping these four tips in mind will absolutely help you stay motivated. Remember why you’re doing this, find the right approach to reach your goals and ask friends to join you. These things will become routine in no time.
