DEDICATION & COMMITTMENT

As a coach, a judge and long time competitor myself, I see people come and go rather quickly in the competition arena. People don’t often realize how hard it is to mentally prepare to compete.
Here’s my list of things you must be willing to do in order to have a successful prep.
YOU MUST EAT TO COMPETE
This may sounds wonderful but the truth is it is harder than it sounds. Everything you put in your mouth is counted, calculated, times and with intention. Also, picky eaters or people who don’t like this or that will have a hard time. You eat what is on your meal plan. Period.
GIVE IT YOUR ALL
You must be willing to give 100% to your workouts and cardio. Skipping these are never an option. NEVER.
REMEMBER YOUR WHY
Competing was a choice you made. Enjoy the process. No one wants to hear you cry about what you can’t eat for 16 weeks. Embrace prep and what comes with it. You knew going in you would have to make sacrifices. You will be the odd man out of many social gatherings. Enjoy the people and conversation around you and don’t focus on the food.
STICK TO YOUR PLAN
If you can’t follow the diet for more than a day or two, then maybe competing is not for you, or maybe the timing is just not right. Diet is the hardest part of the equation. Training is the fun part, dieting is the mental challenge.
YOU WILL BE HUNGRY
Get used to it and simply find other things to do until your next mealtime.
WINNING ISN’T EVERYTHING
Be your best. Focus on improving yourself for next time. This can be a very selfish sport…you are competing against YOU.
If you aren’t running scared after reading all the ways your life would change if you were a Competitor, you must be serious about competing. With all the hurdles and struggles their comes an equal sense of accomplishment and goal crushing. I have never heard a competitor say they were sorry they even tried. You will learn so much about yourself in the journey. It’s so much more than getting lean
