BUILDING TAKES TIME
Hello, my name is Tammy. I have been going to the gym since I was 15. I picked up my first Muscle & Fitness magazine at age 20 and knew I wanted to look like the athletes they featured. Building a body like that I understood would take time. Keep in mind, there were not many women in the sport of bodybuilding back then. In my experience, Cory Everson and Lenda Murray were pretty much the only women I knew of and women I aspired to look like.
It takes years to acquire a pro-level physique. At this stage of the game, I still push to improve every year because I have so much that needs to get better. I have genetic flaws I can’t help, but you can bet I will do all I can to combat that. So many up-and-comers are wanting it all in only a few short months. I am here to tell you it takes years. It is a marathon, not a sprint. So be patient. Everything you do from the time you make that decision is a stepping stone to your final goal.
FAST FORWARD 20 YEARS
To be honest, looking back now, I have accomplished more than I ever thought possible. I have not only met some of my mentors but competed on the same stage alongside them. I have seen and heard some crazy sh** in this industry and have seen many people rise and fall.
Keeping it real and having a clear head is the secret to survival in this sport. It’s a hobby, a lifestyle, and a passion. Building your dream is a long-term process, so enjoy it. Make memories and friends along the way. A trophy is great but it’s so much more than that. It’s pride in hard work, a feeling of accomplishment. This sport is hard. It’s not for the weak and undisciplined.
