Whether you believe it or not, it’s been proven that the way you think and act will create that energy and navigate those things to you. Positive thinking creates a magnetic field of good things coming your way, likewise with negative thinking and with the new year, we all want to make it a good one, right?
Typically, we strive to make each year better than the last one. To make that happen, I challenge you to do this fresh morning routine every day in 2020. It’s simple and won’t take up more than thirty minutes of your morning. Let’s start together.
One thing I have learned over the years is to be thankful for the things I have and to stop paying so much attention to what other people have. In 2018 I was suffering depression and had a lot going on. It was hard to stay positive. But 2019 things turned around because I didn’t give up and I am ecstatic to see what the new year brings.
So what changed? I remained positive and I didn’t give up, and I kept a journal. No, it wasn’t easy, in fact, it was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. But each day I woke up and I wrote down three simple things I was thankful for, no matter how small. I focused on these things all day, whether they were as big as being thankful for my health or as small as having a hot cup of coffee that morning. It was a positive way to start the day.
Write Down Your Goal of the Day (GOTD)
Maybe you’ve heard this before, but include in the journal with your gratitude, at least one goal of the day. That could be a fitness or health goal, or a goal to smile more, interact with your co-workers, anything that you feel would improve yourself or make you happy. It doesn’t have to be a big goal, sometimes just a smile is something to strive for each new day.
Meditation is a habit that redirects your focus and balances your mind and body. This practice can be done in five, ten, or fifteen minutes a day, whatever fits your schedule. Consider journaling practice of meditation and combine all of the above things into one. The point of meditation is to create a healthy, mindful, and positive energy around yourself and what better time to do that then first thing in the morning?
Find New Ways to Say ‘Thank You’
It is such a good feeling to be appreciated, but don’t you feel good when you are the one making someone else happy? Take a moment each new day to send a short email, a quick text, or just tell someone “Thank you” or “I appreciate you for” blank. It puts you in a good light and the positive energy you are spreading will come back around for you too.
Okay, I know I said these things could be done in thirty minutes or less, let’s be honest, we should exercise at least sixty minutes a day. If you want that bonus-positive-feel-good-energy, by all means, exercise daily. In its own right, it is meditation, stress relief, and exercise releases endorphins which will make you happy. Remember when I mentioned my depression earlier? This is a big thing that helped me fight through that. Granted, during that time many workouts were ten minutes of hard work and fifteen of crying, but the point is, exercising helped and a great deal. It is what kept from having to medicate in order to battle through the depression. It doesn’t have to be about a number, exercise can be all about how you feel.
Have an excellent 2020!
FAITH ENGEN ELLIS
Faith is a southern girl, born and raised in North Carolina. She enjoys spending time with her husband and fur-baby.
Faith is living a healthy lifestyle and her ultimate passion is to inspire others to do the same.
She decided to change the way she was living 4 years ago, but she wasn’t expecting to actually fall in love with it!
Now she enjoys experimenting with different kinds of fitness and challenging her body to new heights whether it be pilates, plyometric training, or weight training, and she aims to inspire others to realize the strength within themselves as well.
Faith’s favorite product for pre-workout is the Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy line. Her favorite flavor so far has been the peach lemonade, but next on her list is Mocha Cappuccino, yum! The use of natural caffeine sources is a real win for this product and it mixes easily, so there is no grainy texture.
For protein sources, she enjoys Oh Yeah! One Bars for a quick and filling snack on-the-go, of which she has many favorite flavors! Or Gaspari Precision Protein to mix up a shake. Faith’s favorite recipe uses 1 scoop of the Cinnamon Cereal Crunch flavor, mixed with 1/2 a banana, 1/4 a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 8 ounces of unsweetened almond milk, and 1 cup of ice.
