5 NON-FOOD REWARDS
By Faith Ellis
Nailing your workout and sticking to your healthy meal plan is a major success and a sure way to hit your health and fitness goals. When you meet your goals, you probably have a reward in mind that keeps you motivated to keep going for the goal and treat yourself when you get there. Does your goal and reward look something like this…
Goal: Be able to lift 20 pounds for 12 bicep curls for three sets by the end of June.
Reward: An ice cream cone from Ben & Jerry’s of 1 scoop of any flavor ice cream.
Maybe you are trying to lose weight and your goal is stick to a specific meal plan for one month with a reward of your favorite meals by the end. While these are great goals and yummy rewards, there are more ways to treat yourself after accomplishing your goals, which will do great things for your mind, body, and soul.
Shopping for something special for yourself is an excellent reward to meeting your goals. Maybe you have had your eye on a special handbag for a while, or a new pair of Nike’s. Maybe the Dyson hairdryer caught your attention, but you just cannot be persuaded to fork out that much money on yourself. Whatever the item is you have been wanting, use it as your next reward for hitting your goal.
REWARD YOURSELF WITH A WELL DESERVED MASSAGE
If you have been hitting your fitness goals, your muscles could probably use a break. Reward yourself with a much –“kneaded” massage at your local spa. You could enjoy a nice relaxing massage or consider a deep-tissue massage to release knots in your muscles. It may not be very comfortable, but if you have been working hard, your muscles will thank you.
INDULGE IN A NIGHT OUT
Sometimes you might find yourself denying nights out with your friends because it is easier to stick to your meal plan that way. Although it doesn’t have to be about food, consider a night out with your friends or significant other, that allows you to enjoy and indulge, whether it be food, drink, or fun.
FEEL BEAUTIFUL WITH A BLOWOUT
The little things in life make us happy and can even make us feel beautiful. Consider a trip to the salon a reward, but do not make it your usual trim or cut, make it a special trip, like a blowout, to make you feel beautiful before a brunch date.
TAKE A DAY TO BINGE
No, do not take a day to binge on food but on your favorite show. With all the work you have put in, it is fine to indulge in a lazy day as a reward. Yes, even a day where you lay in bed and watch all seven seasons of Shameless.
What are some non-food ways you reward yourself for hitting your fitness and health goals?
FAITH ENGEN ELLIS
Faith is living a healthy lifestyle and her ultimate passion is to inspire others to do the same.
She decided to change the way she was living 4 years ago, but she wasn’t expecting to actually fall in love with it!
Now she enjoys experimenting with different kinds of fitness and challenging her body to new heights whether it be pilates, plyometric training, or weight training, and she aims to inspire others to realize the strength within themselves as well.
Faith’s favorite product for pre-workout is the Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy line. Her favorite flavor so far has been the peach lemonade, but next on her list is Mocha Cappuccino, yum! The use of natural caffeine sources is a real win for this product and it mixes easily, so there is no grainy texture.
For protein sources, she enjoys Oh Yeah! One Bars for a quick and filling snack on-the-go, of which she has many favorite flavors! Or Gaspari Precision Protein to mix up a shake. Faith’s favorite recipe uses 1 scoop of the Cinnamon Cereal Crunch flavor, mixed with 1/2 a banana, 1/4 a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 8 ounces of unsweetened almond milk, and 1 cup of ice.
