You’re working out because you want a better body; but, that goal shouldn’t come at the expense of your skin. Read on to find out how to take care of your skin after each workout.
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
You know the deal — drink lots of water before you exercise. This is a no-brainer as exercising naturally uses lots of water. Your body needs water to function while stressed during exercise, and it will immediately tell you if it’s not properly hydrated. Common symptoms of dehydration include an unusually high pulse, more cramps, and feelings of fatigue, and so you have to drink bottles and bottles of water to avoid such symptoms.
But people don’t tell you about how you need to hydrate after you exercise to avoid skin damage. When your body is stressed during exercise, it might not use water how you think it would. It’s going to continue to take the water you drank and source it where it needs to — your muscles and bloodstream, for instance. But it could need more water than you drank, pulling further water from your skin, which is the largest organ in your body. Drink lots of water after a workout to replenish the water supply in your body and avoid dried out skin.
Wash Your Skin Thoroughly
Once you’ve hydrated, hop in the shower and be sure to scrub your skin everywhere. And we mean everywhere. Sweat, dirt, and oil could have gotten trapped in your skin’s pores while you exercised, especially in the less breathable areas such as around your waistband and the areas covered by your sports bra. Exfoliate these areas to draw out the dirt and oil and clean out your pores with a gentle body wash.
Moisturize with Natural Creams
After thoroughly washing your skin after a workout, you’ve stripped your skin from all its natural oils. Your skin could overproduce oil and give you a greasy, shiny look. Prevent that from happening by moisturizing as soon as your skin is dry after the shower. Moisturizing helps prevent wrinkles and gives your skin a softer, more supple look.
Skin Recovery After a Workout
Just like you have to care for your body after exercise, you have to care for your skin as well. Make sure you’re maintaining proper hygiene after each workout, hydrating yourself thoroughly and slathering on the moisturizer, and you’ll be on the right path to better skin to match your ever improving body.
